چکیده

Background The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection occurs by binding to CD4+ receptor and chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) or the CXC chemokine receptor (CXCR4). A mutation in the CCR5 gene, 32 base pair deletion consequences a truncated protein that is not expressed on the cell surface. The deletion confers resistance to HIV-1 infection and slows the progression of AIDS in HIV infected individuals. The worldwide distribution of CCR5delta 32 polymorphism was congregated by retrieving the data from literature and genotyping new population samples. A comprehensive resource of frequency data for CCR5delta 32 polymorphism in different population samples was created.

Evaluation of CCR5Δ32 Polymorphism in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Healthy Individuals

ABSTRACT           Background and Objectives: C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) is a chemokine receptor expressed at high levels on the surface of T-cells. A 32-bp deletion in the coding region of the CCR5 (CCR5Δ32) leads to production of an incomplete protein that is not expressed on the cell surface. CCR5Δ32 may be involved in devel...

Distribution of the mutated delta 32 allele of CCR5 co-receptor gene in Iranian population

Background :The CCR5 is a chemokine receptor that serves as a co-receptor for HIV-1 attachment and entry to T lymphocytes. A 32bp deletion (∆32) in this gene is believed to be associated with resistance to infection and delay disease progression. The aim of this study was to determine the ∆32 allele frequency in healthy individuals and HIV-infected individuals with AIDS.   Methods : In this e...

Partial protective effect of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygosity in a cohort of heterosexual Italian HIV-1 exposed uninfected individuals

Despite multiple sexual exposure to HIV-1 virus, some individuals remain HIV-1 seronegative (exposed seronegative, ESN). The mechanisms underlying this resistance remain still unclear, although a multifactorial pathogenesis can be hypothesised. Although several genetic factors have been related to HIV-1 resistance, the homozigosity for a mutation in CCR5 gene (the 32 bp deletion, i.e. CCR5-Delt...

Evaluating plague and smallpox as historical selective pressures for the CCR5-Delta 32 HIV-resistance allele.

The high frequency, recent origin, and geographic distribution of the CCR5-Delta 32 deletion allele together indicate that it has been intensely selected in Europe. Although the allele confers resistance against HIV-1, HIV has not existed in the human population long enough to account for this selective pressure. The prevailing hypothesis is that the selective rise of CCR5-Delta 32 to its curre...

Study of CCR5 Gene Polymorphism in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Chemokines are critical for the inflammatory process in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The chemokine receptor-5 (CCR5) mediates chemotaxis by CC chemokines and is expressed by lymphocytes with Th1 phenotype and monocyte/macrophages. A 32bp deletion in the CCR5 (CCR5-delta 32 allele) abolishes receptor expression in homozygotes, while CCR5-delta 32 carriers express less r...
